Computer says the “Disc Image File is Corrupted” or “Not Mountable”, etc.

The file is probably fine, it is just that you are trying to open, run, launch or execute the map file on a computer, it isn’t designed to work on a computer, just on a Garmin GPS device.

So, on a windows PC, if you see a message telling you that the file is “Corrupted” (Windows), it is because you are trying to open/run/execute the map file on your Windows computer. Which as you have found out doesn’t work; the map file is NOT a Disk or other Mountable Image file, no matter what your computer tells you. Nor is it a graphical image file (such as a picture, photograph, etc.) so it won’t open in a graphics editor or other graphics tool/app!

The error message looks like this:

Likewise, on a Mac, if you see a message telling you that the file is “Not Mountable” or “The Following Disk Images Could Not Be Opened”, it is because you are trying to open/run/execute the map file on your Mac computer. Which as you have found out doesn’t work; the map file is NOT a Disk or other Mountable Image file, no matter what your computer tells you.

The error message looks like this (or similar):

The IMG file is the map file in Garmin IMG (Map) format, ready for direct use on the Garmin device or installed on to a MicroSD card (as applicable).

If you are trying to use the map in BaseCamp, you can do this as follows:

  • Attach the Garmin with the map installed on (or a MicroSD card in the Garmin) to your computer via the USB cable
  • The map will be temporarily pulled in to BaseCamp, and you can use it in there to view and interact with the map, create tracks/routes/waypoints, etc. but only whilst the Garmin is attached to your computer.

We do offer dedicated BaseCamp versions of the map, either as a one-off purchase, or as part of a subscription. More information can be found here.
