My maps work fine in
Oruxmaps on Android, you can use them on as many Android devices as you personally own.
The map (IMG) file should be placed on the MicroSD card or Internal storage of your Android phone, such as /storage/emulated/0/oruxmaps/mapfiles/ (this varies from phone to phone and the version of Android installed on the device).
The latest version of Android uses the following folder (when the phone is mounted on a Windows computer via the USB cable): This PC\<Phone_Name>\Internal shared storage\Android\data\com.orux.oruxmapsDonate\files\oruxmaps\mapfiles
You then simply copy and paste the map file into that folder and then in the Oruxmaps settings (Global settings, Maps) you set the Maps Directory entry to the folder that you placed the IMG map file in.
Then using the Switch Maps option, go to the Offline tab and you should see the map listed, tap it and it will load into Oruxmaps and display (if you are within coverage of the selected map).
I have this working on two different Android devices I own, using Oruxmaps on both.
The OruxMaps app is not an official Garmin app (and it is created by a third party, but will render the Garmin IMG map file format correctly). The functionality when using our maps on OruxMaps will not be the same as on a Garmin device.
Even though the maps appear to work fine in OruxMaps, I do not support them or offer support on using my maps on OruxMaps. If you are interested in trying out OruxMaps on Android, you can find it in the Google Play Store or via the
Orux web site.
Another Android app called Locus will also read and display Garmin IMG format maps, however it does not support maps with Style files (unlike Oruxmaps, which does support maps with style ffiles), and this will cause the map to display oddly (not as intended) and even if it did render correctly, just like with Oruxmaps you can't use the routing/track or other map functionality, you use the app (Locus) features instead. I do not recommend Locus at all for reading Garmin IMG files.
