BaseCamp is a Garmin product for both Windows and Mac that can be used to create routes, tracks, waypoints, etc. and send or receive this data to a Garmin device attached to the computer via the USB cable.
It also has the ability to read maps in from the Garmin device and use them (whilst the Garmin device with the map installed on is attached via the USB cable to the computer). This is only true where the maps on the Garmin device are created to work that way (as well as on the Garmin device itself).
Our Talkytoaster maps have been compiled/configured to work in BaseCamp when the Garmin device (with the map installed on) is attached via the USB cable to your Windows or Mac(*) computer. This is mentioned in the product pages for our Automatic download maps.
(*) This will not work for the Fenix, Epix (Gen 2) and other newer models as Garmin have broken BaseCamp connectivity for these models.
Update: it appears that Garmin has finally fixed the connection issues with the Fenix 7/Epix 2 models (including the Pro versions). You need the Mac BaseCamp version 4.8.13 (or later) and will need to remove AndroidFileTransfer to allow it to connect (be seen) in BaseCamp.

You can also get BaseCamp versions of the maps that run directly on the computer (Mac or Windows) without having to have the Garmin attached. We offer dedicated BaseCamp versions of all our maps; these can be purchased as one-off maps (no updates) or as part of a subscription (including updates).
BaseCamp is a free download from Garmin, links below:
