Fenix 6/7, Epix Gen 2, etc. Map Themes - How They Affect the Maps!

If you have a Fenix 6 Pro (all models) or Fenix 7 (all models), Epix Gen 2, etc. make sure that the Map Theme is set to NONE, otherwise the map will not render correctly (colour and detail will be lost or changed by the Map Theme selected); that is what map themes do, change the way the map is rendered (colours and detail).

To change the Map Theme (System Level), (Fenix 6 Pro/7 (all models), etc., do this:

  • Press and hold the middle left button, scroll down to Map
  • Press the top right button to select it
  • Then scroll to Map Theme
  • Press the top right button, and adjust the option to NONE.

Here's a handy screen shot showing how the Map Themes affect/change the way the map looks (colour/detail, etc. This is for the area around Wasdale, including Scafell Pike, in the Lake District in England.):

The exact colours changed and the amount of detail that is removed by each theme will depend on the area being viewed. Our maps are designed to be used with the Map Theme set to NONE (in other-words, don't apply a map theme). You either need to set this per Activity profile, or at System Level, and then set each Activity profile to use System Defaults!

Map Themes are only for use with Garmin’s own TopoActive, Marine and Ski maps; they are not for use with other (third party) maps.
