What is DEM, and why is it useful to have it?

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data is only available in the TT HD Topo Pro maps. This offers not only embedded Digital Elevation Model data, but allows map shading (on supported devices) and 3D mode (on supported devices) and in BaseCamp.
